The Tin Ka Ping Foundation has donated CNY three million yuan to Shaanxi Normal University, establishing the Inheritance of Fine Traditional Chinese Culture project to support the development of Chinese Language and Literature discipline.
Chinese Language and Literature is the university’s World Class Discipline under key construction. In the construction plan submitted to the Ministry of Education in 2017, the Inheritance of Fine Traditional Chinese Culture was defined as a priority task. In 2019, MOE approved the establishment of SNNU Base for Inheritance of Fine Traditional Chinese Culture (Shaanxi Shadow Play). It is believed that the support from Tin Ka Ping Foundation will boost the construction of the base and the development of the CLL discipline.
The Inheritance of Fine Traditional Chinese Culture project seeks to achieve its goals through national level intangible cultural heritage programs such as shadow plays, paper cuttings, calligraphy works, lunar new year paintings and facial makeups, which are representations of Shaanxi cultural symbols.
During the 22 years of cooperation with SNNU, Tin Ka Ping Foundation has donated CNY 14.65 million yuan to the university. In 1998, the first donation of CNY 6 million yuan was used to build the Tin Ka Ping Academy of Education building. In 2005, a CNY 300,000 yuan was donated to help the construction of SNNU’s Basic Education Curriculum Reform Center. From 2011 to 2015, CNY 1.95 million yuan was donated to carry out teacher training, educational experiment and collaborative research with 12 Tin Ka Ping schools in Shaanxi province. In 2019, another CNY 3 million yuan was donated to set up the SNNU Tin Ka Ping Scholar Program in high-level talents introduction and faculty development.
In remembrance of and gratitude to Mr. Tin Ka Ping, SNNU named a conference hall in Wenlan Building as Tin Ka Ping Hall.
